Troubleshooting Stability Issues¶
You may be experiencing either initial problems with wireless screen mirroring interruptions, or the devices worked perfectly at first but now you notice the screen mirroring disconnects after a certain period.
This can have various causes and thus different solutions. These are WiFi devices that transmit a video stream from an endpoint device via wireless connection with minimal obstacles to a projector or display, even through an access point/router infrastructure. Additionally, the device must be powered via a USB port.
Note
If any of these points are not optimally configured, it can lead to interruptions and poor performance.
Checklist¶
Please carefully review all assistance points in the checklist below. The first four points are critical and significantly impact the stability and performance of the EZCast Pro Dongle II:
1. Verify Power Supply¶
While it may seem intuitive to power the stick through any available USB port on the projector, caution is required. Without sufficient power supply through the connected USB-A port providing minimum 7.5W (5V/1.5A), the stick may turn on but will experience disconnections. If your display lacks a USB charging port or you're unsure whether the USB port supports the minimum current, please use a USB power adapter (5V/2A):
Incorrect Power Supply from Projector
Correct Power Supply from Projector
Correct Power Supply with USB Adapter (5V/2A)
Please review our power supply guidelines.
2. Check Setup¶
Is the included HDMI extension missing from your setup? Or was the stick incorrectly mounted behind the screen?
Please review our recommended setups for both projectors and large displays:
Projector¶
Large Display¶
3. Verify Firmware¶
Firmware Version¶
Is the latest firmware running on the device? You can update the firmware either via WiFi update or reinstall via USB cable reinstall.
Recommended Settings¶
Afterwards, please review our recommended settings:
4. Check WiFi¶
connect.wifi/#requirements Please carefully read the requirements for WiFi connection:
The most common errors are:
-
Since the EZCast device is a wireless streaming device, we don't recommend using DFS channels due to sudden WiFi channel changes. For stable integration into your WiFi infrastructure, please connect the EZCast device to a WiFi network using channels in the following 5-GHz range: 36, 40, 44, 48. Alternatively, you can enable Legacy Mode on the EZCast device to switch to the 2.4-GHz range.
-
Maintain maximum 10 meters distance between the EZCast Pro Dongle II and both the access point and endpoint devices. Ensure optimal signal strength between -40 dBm and -50 dBm.
5. Scan WiFi Environment and Check RSSI¶
There are two important signal strength tests, also known as RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indicator). This is an important measurement for WiFi performance.
A comprehensive guide for scanning your WiFi environment can be found here.
6. Submit Debug Log File¶
From the same stick (see point 5.) that you tested in the same WiFi environment in step 5, please send us a debug log file of the stick.
7. Check Ports in Your WiFi Infrastructure¶
Are you experiencing connectivity issues with specific functions? Please check your WiFi infrastructure to ensure all required ports for EZCast Pro are allowed:
8. Perform Latency and Performance Test¶
Conduct a latency test and performance test of your EZCast Pro device. With proper operation, the latency time for Full-HD video transmission (1920 x 1080, 60Hz) should be approximately 0.2 seconds and for UHD (3840 x 2060, 30Hz) approximately 0.7 seconds. Additionally, video playback should be possible for at least 6 hours.
A comprehensive guide for performing the latency and performance test can be found here.
