Connect to Wi-Fi¶
You have the option to wirelessly connect the EZCast Pro Dongle II to your network infrastructure via Wi-Fi.
Why should you connect EZCast Pro to Wi-Fi?¶
There are several reasons why you should connect the EZCast Pro Dongle II to your network infrastructure:
-
You are connected to the Pro Dongle II via Apple AirPlay, Google Cast or the EZCast Pro software/app and want to present content from the internet.
-
You want to update the Pro Dongle II to the latest firmware version.
-
You want to remotely access the Advanced Settings function to manage the EZCast Pro Dongle II.
-
Integrated network: When all your end devices and EZCast Pro devices are on the same network, there's no need to switch to the EZCast Pro SSID each time you want to transmit your screen to a different room.
Requirements¶
The following requirements apply to firmware version 1.17478.141 and higher. Before connecting the EZCast Pro Dongle II to your Wi-Fi, please check the recommended requirements:
- Access Point supports Wi-Fi standard 802.11ac.
- By default, the EZCast device operates in 5GHz mode. As it is a wireless streaming device, we recommend avoiding DFS channels due to sudden Wi-Fi channel changes. For stable integration into your Wi-Fi infrastructure, please connect the EZCast device to a Wi-Fi using channels in the following 5GHz range: 36, 40, 44, 48. Alternatively, you can enable Legacy Mode on the EZCast device to switch to the 2.4GHz range.
- If you want the EZCast device to connect via the 2.4GHz frequency of a Wi-Fi, enable Legacy Mode on the EZCast and disable the Band Steering function on your access points.
- Keep the distance between the EZCast Pro Box II and the access point as well as the end devices to a maximum of 10 meters. Ensure optimal signal strength between -40 dBm and -50 dBm. When setting up, please check the signal strength.
- Access Point is in the same room as the Box. This is especially important for the 5 GHz frequency band.
- A clear line of sight from the Box to the Access Point and from the Box to the end devices with as few obstacles as possible. Avoid objects directly next to the EZCast Pro Box II that absorb or reflect Wi-Fi signals, such as: walls, metal surfaces, reflective surfaces and other electronic devices, etc.
- For a guest Wi-Fi, please disable client isolation or create a new SSID that is not set as "guest Wi-Fi" but as "standard". By default, a guest Wi-Fi prevents wireless clients on the same access point from communicating with each other. This can affect the functionality of streaming protocols like AirPlay, Google Chrome, etc.
- Create a dedicated SSID for the EZCast Pro device e.g.
EZCast_5Ghz
on channel 48 and in the same network create another SSID for users or end devices e.g.Users_5Ghz
on channel 40, so the available Wi-Fi channel bandwidth for the EZCast Pro device doesn't have to be shared with other clients.
We recommend using a Wi-Fi analyzer to scan your Wi-Fi environment and plan clean frequency usage for wireless presentations.
Auto-Connect to Default Wi-Fi¶
With firmware version 1.17478.141 and higher, the dongle automatically connects to a known SSID that you can optionally enable on your Wi-Fi infrastructure, without anyone first needing to connect to the dongle and then select the infrastructure Wi-Fi. The login credentials are already stored in the firmware. This means the device can be network-ready directly "out-of-the-box" and saves the administrator time during integration. The login credentials are:
- SSID:
defaultAP
- Password:
h3T9g!K2
- Encryption mode: WPA-PSK SAE
You then have the option to either connect the device to another Wi-Fi of your choice and disable the SSID "defaultAP" on your infrastructure again, or leave the device connected to defaultAP.
The EZCast Pro Dongle II automatically connects to the SSID "defaultAP". The EZCast device is "out-the-box" accessible via the displayed infrastructure IP address. To connect the device to another Wi-Fi, you simply need to enter this IP address in your web browser and log in as admin.
Connect to Wi-Fi¶
Open Advanced Settings¶
- Connect your end device to the SSID of the EZCast Pro II device. The login credentials are displayed at the top of the homepage:
- In the address bar of a web browser, enter the IP address of the EZCast Pro device labeled
Direct Link IP
192.168.168.1. The settings interface of the EZCast Pro device will appear:
Log in as admin¶
- Enter the admin password and click
OK
to log in. By default, the password is000000
. If this password is not accepted, reset the device using the reset button.
- During the first login, you must change the admin password. Afterward, you will need to log in again.
Select Network Management¶
- From the menu at the top left, select
Network Management
.
- Select the option
Connect to 5GHz Wi-Fi Router/AP
.
- Connect the Pro Dongle to your Wi-Fi router.
When the EZCast Pro Dongle II is connected to your network or router, an IP address assigned by your network labeled Infrastructure IP
will be displayed on the screen, as shown below:
Note
A Miracast connection with the EZCast Pro Dongle II is established as an additional Wi-Fi connection solely for screen transmission. For internet content, the end device uses the existing or last connected Wi-Fi/LAN internet connection or utilizes a provider's mobile data access. More information about Miracast can be found here.
Legacy Mode (2.4 GHz Wi-Fi)¶
If you want the EZCast device to connect via the 2.4GHz frequency of a Wi-Fi, enable Legacy Mode.
Legacy Mode can be found in the settings under Device Management -> Legacy Mode.
To support 2.4 / 5GHz dual-band Wi-Fi networks, we ask you to disable the Band Steering
function within the corresponding SSID of your access points. This will ignore the 5GHz frequency.
Comprehensive documentation on how to customize all functions can be found in the Advanced Settings guide.
Troubleshooting¶
Internet router signal strength¶
The EZCast Pro Dongle II has a wireless range (line of sight) of up to 10m. A low signal display refers to poor signal strength between the dongle and your router or access point. This can lead to choppy playback of videos and content if the content depends on the internet or if your mobile devices connect to the dongle via your infrastructure.
Note
Max. 10 meters distance from Dongle to access point as well as from Dongle to end devices. When setting up, please check the signal strength. Between -40 dBm and -50 dBm is optimal.
This can have various causes and thus various solutions.
1. Problem: The distance between the EZCast Pro Dongle II and the router or wireless access point is too great.
Solution: Try to reduce the distance or install an additional wireless access point.
2. Problem: There are walls or other objects between the EZCast Pro Dongle II and the router or wireless access point that degrade the signal strength.
Solution: Make sure the EZCast Pro Dongle II has no obstacles to the router or access point. If necessary, install an additional access point.
