Disable SoftAP

What is SoftAP?

The EZCast Pro Box II features two network interfaces:

The SoftAP serves as the EZCast Pro device's integrated WiFi access point. During initial setup, you connect your device to the SoftAP. The default SoftAP SSID typically appears as something like Pro 2 B10_BF8E0C84. You then connect the EZCast Pro Box II to your network infrastructure either wirelessly via WiFi or via LAN cable. By default, the EZCast Pro device remains accessible through both network interfaces:

What Exactly Gets Disabled?

When you disable the SoftAP on the EZCast Pro Box II, the Box becomes accessible only through the network infrastructure:

Affected Streaming Protocols

The following streaming protocols require either a SoftAP or network infrastructure connection:

Unaffected Streaming Protocols

The Miracast P2P streaming protocol remains unaffected by disabling SoftAP.

Why Disable SoftAP?

  • Prevent devices from accidentally reconnecting to the wrong SSID - they should remain in the school WiFi and access EZCast Pro devices through the network infrastructure
  • Ensure all devices authenticate through your network infrastructure before accessing internet or other device services
  • Minimize the number of broadcast SSIDs in your environment

The Two Miracast Modes

Before disabling or configuring SoftAP, it's important to understand EZCast Pro's two Miracast modes.

EZCast Pro II offers two Miracast modes: Full Screen Mode (NGO Mode) and Split Screen Mode (AGO Mode). These modes provide different functionalities and control SoftAP behavior, including options to either completely disable it or just hide the password. If you haven't decided which Miracast mode best suits your EZCast Pro devices, please review the comprehensive guide to both Miracast Modes.

We've summarized all possible options under each Miracast mode below:

Full Screen Mode (NGO Mode)

Using Advanced Settings, select Device Management -> Miracast -> Full Screen Mode Only and restart the EZCast Pro device to activate Full Screen Mode (NGO Mode):

After activating Full Screen Mode (NGO Mode), the following options become available:

Disable SoftAP

  • With the setting Admin Settings -> Connection -> Via Router Only, the EZCast Pro device's SoftAP is completely disabled:

The SoftAP SSID on the home screen appears grayed out. The password and SoftAP IP address are hidden. The SoftAP SSID stops broadcasting and becomes invisible to devices. The EZCast Pro device then becomes accessible only through your infrastructure:

Hide SSID

Want to keep SoftAP active but hide the SSID?

  • With the setting Admin Settings -> Connection -> Via Router or Direct Connection, SoftAP remains enabled:

  • Then enable Device Management -> Device Name -> Hide SSID:

The SSID/device name becomes hidden on the home screen:

Connecting to SoftAP requires manual device configuration:

Hide Password

Want to keep SoftAP active but hide the password?

  • With the setting Admin Settings -> Connection -> Via Router or Direct Connection, SoftAP remains enabled:

  • Then enable Network Management -> WiFi Password -> Hide Password:

The password becomes hidden on the home screen:

Split Screen Mode (AGO Mode)

In AGO Mode, SoftAP remains essential for split screen functionality with up to 4 devices, including Miracast. The SoftAP SSID cannot be disabled or hidden - you can only hide the password:

Hide Password

Since password hiding only works in Full Screen Mode (NGO Mode), first switch modes via Advanced Settings by selecting Device Management -> Miracast -> Full Screen Mode Only and restarting the EZCast Pro device:

  • Then enable Network Management -> WiFi Password -> Hide Password:

Finally, select Device Management -> Miracast -> Supports Split Screen and restart the EZCast Pro device:

The password hides on the home screen and the displayed SSID/device name includes the DIRECT- prefix:
